Wow. This was one of the best films I have seen in a long time and every review I read was correct, this is a gritty, dark, mob story through and through coated with super hero costumes. It is such an awesome story, so well acted (Yes Ledger is that good) and just keeps you into it, almost like you are living in Gotham throughout the film.
Ledger's performance is obviously the big news story here and I am glad since so many people questioned him when he was cast. I knew deep down for some reason this guy was going to be good. I said if Christopher Nolan picked him out of everyone (it seemed so odd back then), he has something up his sleeve. And boy did he. What a performance and what a shame that this man who you can tell in this film finally came into his own with his craft is now dead and cannot act for us any longer. He demands your attention every time he steps on the screen and I have never felt that way about Heath Ledger. I always thought of him as a decent actor whom the girls liked to look at. So to Mr. Ledger, hats off... this was your opus, your Swan Song, your legacy. You died young but what a way to go out, it would've been hard to top this performance. Because for the first time in my life, a super villain creeped me out, in a good way. Bravo.
Bale as always is a home run and in this film really finds the dynamic between Wayne and the Batman, but again he is always dynamite so onto the other supporting characters. There is a lot more action in the close quarters combat and it feels right out of the comic book. He also has an improved suit now which is very cool and of course we have the cool gadgets!
Oldman is fantastic as usual and I love his move of playing a hero instead of his long track history of playing a villain. He does it wonderfully and it is hard to imagine the same guy in Dracula, True Romance and The Assassin.
The most surprising performance to me came from Aaron Eckhart. He was fantastic as Harvey Dent and without giving too much away, let's just say his character toward the end becomes much more interesting. It was good to see Aaron expand his career to where I have never seen him go before and he did it with some great acting chops.
No Katie Holmes? Yes that's right we actually have a talented actress here folks! Maggie Gylenhal plays a terrific role as Rachel and saves the atrocity that was Holmes' character (the only bad part to Batman Begins).
Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine also lend terrific performances in their roles and are in the film more (especially Freeman). There are also some cameos by Scarecrow and his goons and a nicely portrayed crime boss played by Eric Roberts (this guy saves his career every 5 years!)
Again I cannot stress what an experience this film is, it is more than just a movie it is just pure artistic expression. Nolan does it again and this time trumphs his first film which was VERY hard to do as Batman Begins is incredible. I look forward to the third film (even with Ledger passing, sniffle) and how they will rebound and what villain they will bring into the fold.
Let me elaborate. So I am one of the suckers who's been watching this show since it premiered and have followed it completely since. I will admit Season 2 was horrendous and caused me to stop watching (Giving up on the show altogether) but catching up with Season 3 on the web after some talk from trusted friends I began watching again and am hooked. Season 4 was amazing and this show tells the human element better than any show and most movies I have ever seen.
I will admit right now I am not afraid to say I have cried before (No I didn't cry during Lost), I came close though a few times. I will not say certain moments because Lost is a show everyone should catch up on, just go to ABC.com, trust me, yes it's that good. There were so many times with the mood, the acting, the ambiance, the music and just the dialogue cause a close to tear jerker moment. Brilliant TV.
I am excited even with all the wacky plot changes, every time I count this show out or argue something they shut me up with a brilliant plot twist or explanation. The writers just know what is up and I wish more tv was this good. For instance, I am a fan of Heroes and while it is good let's face it, they are just using material that has been sitting around for ages (X-Men) and making it more real life instead of comic book. Lost actually creates an entire tale, the simplest of tales (so it seems) at its roots, a plane crashes, we're all stranded. Then they go from here and sure there are polar bears, crazy natives and dead people haunting their dreams. But mostly the show plays with morality, human interactions, love, loss and betrayal. Every episode plays with the heart and the mind and for this, I bow.
Here's to next season starting up (Not for a while yet) and me applauding such a great piece of art, not just TV, art.
Okay so I really want to see The Dark Knight this Fridays eve, but not just because of the Heath Ledger buzz or because 8 million other people want to go see it, I just have always been a huge fan of Batman (especially Frank Miller's depiction) and loved Batman Begins.
So I watch trailers, teasers, promos, youtubes, you know it to drive myself nuts in preparation over the months I wait to see this film and what happens? I find out that it may be sold out and I might not be able to watch it tonight. Okay so in all honesty I haven't called the local theaters to confirm but I know many people who have found this out where they live and if it isn't there, well that just sucks.
Here's hoping the little boy in me can see the caped crusader f' some s' up tonight, for shizzle.
Hey guys, if anyone has free time or wants to read my novel or at least the description and/or preview, feel free by clicking the link below.
Here is a short description from my site.
The year is 2352. Due to drastic climate changes, the continents have drifted into a super continent named Pangaea Ultima. The Great War, which was the largest World War in history paved the way for The Captain John Carter, a money hungry former military Captain to take leadership of all of the land and run it like a business. Their freedom has been taken from them, it is useless to fight. Or is it? Resonance Walker doesn't think so, but he needs your help. Will you join the revolution? Or will you fall in line and obey like a good little sheep. You decide.
So it looks like someone is finally doing something about Darfur and the disgusting genocide that's been going on over there. I love how we rush to places we need to be in to stop "Terror" while tons of innocents are being slaughtered, Africans none the less. This makes my stomach turn like Hurricane Katrina, no wonder the world still thinks whites hate blacks, it's almost like we try to make it obvious sometimes. I bet if the good ol white folk in South Africa were being killed, we'd be right there.
